The Dy'on 5/8 Rubber Reins are 16 mm wide rubber reins from the D Collection, made of leather and rubber. The rubber grip keeps hold in wet weather and the stops help you place your hands in the same spot every time. They are meant for jumping and eventing riders who want a substantial rein in the hand. About these reins
A 16 mm rein fills the hand noticeably more than a narrow dressage rein. That is deliberate: on a horse that leans firmly into the contact or pushes hard through the canter stride, the extra width gives you more to hold without having to squeeze harder. Which is why this width is chosen mainly in jumping and eventing.
The rubber grip is the second point. Rubber keeps gripping where leather turns slippery, so in the rain, on a sweating horse or with wet gloves. If you train outdoors or across country in all weathers, you notice the difference straight away.
The reins are fitted with Dy'on stops. They sit at fixed intervals and give you a tangible reference point: you feel where your hand is without looking, with the same length left and right. That helps you ride symmetrically and quickly find your rein length again after a fence or a turn.
The finish is recognisably Dy'on: brass buckles and cream stitching. Brass is a warm, golden-toned fitting that is strong and hard-wearing and sits beautifully against brown leather. The cream stitching runs along the reins as a contrast line and gives them their typical look. The reins match the snaffle bridles and double bridles of the D Collection.
The whole is made of leather and rubber: leather for the straps and fastenings, rubber for the grip section. That keeps the reins supple and sturdy at the same time.
